Hartong Land

Jacob Hartong, son of Christain Harting and Barbara, was born April 21, 1796, in Lancaster Co. Pennsylvania. He married his first wife Elizabeth Tritch November 11, 1815 in Reading, Berks Co., Pennsylvania and they moved to Green Township, Stark County, Ohio in 1824, where Jacob joined his brother Philip. Jacob's farm is described below..

Here are some news articles from the Akron Beacon Journal about the Cleveland Museum of Natural History purchasing land for a wildlife and plant reserve. They would like to acquire 300 acres that would protect the 150 acres of wetlands. The land includes Singer Lake and several bogs that have remained mostly undeveloped. It borders to the South on Mount Pleasant Road on the Summit-Stark county line and to the North on Koons Road. It's side borders are just east of Arlington Street and west to Thursby Road.
The Jacob Hartong farm consisted of 250 acres located on the southeastern corner of Koons Road and Arlington Steet, whith a large part of it known as the Tamarack Swamp.
